An improvised site specific work carried by the narrative of memory, this piece leans into the architectural dramaturgy of place to convey embodied meaning.
What began as an exploration of identity and rebellion from rigid movement patterns and aesthetic hierarchies has become an amalgamation of performance art and post dramatic theatre. Built through improvisation within choreography containers in dance, a movement language was formed with aerial straps for new work that exists outside the margins. The fourth iteration of a trans-disciplinary project that merges the visuality of cinematography, the aesthetic sense of dance and apparatus of aerial straps to convey narratives of identity and belonging in urban contexts. N'maltem, the title of this evolving work, means "remembering far back", speaking to the project's origins.
